VW’s Golf R (or Golfer as I kept calling it) is not the fastest hot hatch in America, nor is it the best handling or arguably the best value. But if my cash were on the line, it is the hatch I’d buy. Why? Let’s explore that. Note: The 5.6 second 0-60 time quoted was the best time we could get after we shot this video and then did back to back runs testing different launch techniques.
