2021 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Review: The Perfect Family Mobile?

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid may just be your ultimate family vehicle. Why? It provides the ultimate blend of usability, technology, and efficiency. Recently refreshed, the Pacifica lineup got a revised front fascia complete with reshaped headlights, a new grille, and different lower air openings. In the rear, Chrysler added full-width LED taillights, making it more distinctive than before.
Inside, you get a revised interior featuring the latest version of the UConnect multimedia system. That adds a new 10.1-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Certain variants are also available with the UConnect Theater system, which adds two large displays behind the front seats and wireless headphones. You also get HDMI ports so that you can plug everything from mobile devices to gaming consoles into the car. There’s even a Blu-Ray player in case you want to watch movies.

Despite the addition of plug-in hybrid powertrain components, the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is still extremely practical. While the third row still folds into a tub, the second row doesn’t because the batteries take up space where the Stow N’ Go seats drop in. Luckily, you can still remove the middle seats to give you a completely flat load floor to haul bulky items or your impulse buys at Costco. If you’re looking for a dash of luxury, the Pacifica Hybrid is also offered in the range-topping Pinnacle trim. This gets you a luxed-up interior with two-tone quilted Nappa leather upholstery and lumbar pillows for the middle seats.

Powering the Pacifica Hybrid is a 3.6-liter V6 coupled to a 16.0-kWh lithium-ion battery, two electric motors, and a planetary gear set. The total system output is 260 hp. That’s less than the non-hybrid Pacifica but the instant response from the electric motors allows the electrified minivan to move with gusto. On a full charge, the Pacifica Hybrid can travel up to 32 miles. With a full tank and a full charge, you can travel up to 520 miles or get 30 mpg combined. Charging from empty to 100 percent takes just over two hours via a level 2 or 240-volt outlet. Using a standard wall outlet or a level 1 charger, it’ll take 14 hours to fully charge. If you’re looking for an AWD-equipped Pacifica and want the electrified powertrain, you’re out of luck because the plug-in hybrid variant is FWD only.

Due to its usability and flexibility, the Chrysler Pacifica remains one of the best family cars available. If you’re not opposed to the idea of driving a minivan, you’ll benefit from the clever storage solutions, and you won’t need to play Tetris with your family’s belongings when you hit the road. Although the Pacifica Hybrid loses out on certain practical features, it’s still more useful than your typical three-row crossover and its competitors. The fact that it’s also quiet and pleasantly comfortable to drive adds to this minivan’s appeal, especially in electrified form.
