The all-new 2021 Toyota Sienna is a big deal because it’s only going to be offered with a hybrid powertrain. You read that right, Toyota’s popular minivan will be electrified across the board. This family-friendly rig will use the same hybrid powertrain found in the Camry, Avalon, ES 300h, RAV4, Highlander, and Venza. That means a 2.5-liter four-cylinder coupled to one or two electric drive motors, a nickel-metal-hydride battery, and a planetary gear set. In total, the system makes 245 hp. Like in its crossover siblings, AWD-equipped Siennas don’t use a mechanical setup. Instead, it has an electric motor mounted on the rear axle to provide traction back there.
As you’d expect out of a family-friendly vehicle, the 2021 Toyota Sienna adds a lot of neat features including many storage cubbies for bags and mobile devices. There’s also a posh Platinum version with second-row captain’s chair sporting an integrated ottoman. Toyota’s Safety Suite 2.0 is standard on all Siennas as is a 9.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Should you want your minivan to have a sporting edge, the Sienna will be available in XSE grade, which gets a retuned suspension. In case you’re looking to tow, the Sienna is capable of towing 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.
