2023 Honda CR-V Revealed: Today, Honda has released the first wave of information on the sixth-generation of its most popular SUV. A small batch of photos and basic specs on the updated powertrains make up the bulk of today’s reveal, but if you want a closer look at the EX and Sport Touring models, check out our in-person first look video below. What do we know so far? The new CR-V has a much more simplified trim lineup this time around. EX is now the base trim and shares a more basic design theme with the nicer EX-L trim. If you want the sportier look seen in the photos below, you’ll have to choose a Sport or Sport Touring trim. In an interesting twist, Honda’s updated two-motor hybrid system is standard on the latter two trims. If you want more power and fuel efficiency, that is the only way to go. Honda sticks with its mechanical all-wheel drive system which is optional on Sport, standard on Sport Touring.
The EX and EX-L models are powered by the 1.5L turbo 4-cylinder from the Civic which here makes 190 horsepower and 179 lb.-ft. of torque. All-wheel drive will be available, but we do not have any fuel economy figures for either powertrain with either drivetrain. What we do know is how much the CR-V has grown. It is 2.7 inches longer with a 1.6 inch longer wheelbase and sits 0.4 inches higher. Surprisingly, no off-road or quasi-off road trim has been mentioned, so perhaps the CR-V will not be getting a TrailSport variant like its larger siblings. Inside, the 2023 CR-V now has the most cargo room in its history. 36.3 cu.-ft. of space behind rear seats regardless of powertrains. In EX and EX-L, the rear load floor can be lowered to bring the cargo space to 39.3 cu.-ft. Cargo space expands to 76.5 cu.-ft. with the seats folded down. Look for a Civic-inspired interior design with a strong horizontal orientation and updated tech.
