The 70th year of Corvette brings a change of pace for the iconic nameplate. For the first time ever, there’s an electrified Corvette with all-wheel drive, and it’s called the E-Ray. This is not the anticipated full battery-electric Corvette coming next year, but a regular plug-less hybrid that uses a 160-horsepower electric motor to send power to the front axle. The LT2 V8 provides gasoline-inspired propulsion to the rear – 495 horsepower worth. Exterior design tweaks give it a similar motif to the Z06 model while being even quicker. The 0-60 mph sprint should take 2.5 seconds.
There a lot of cool features and specs accompanying the new powertrain. Stealth Mode allows for quiet all-electric driving at up to 45 mph, best for pulling out of your neighborhood division in the morning. This also makes the Corvette front-wheel drive for a moment, another first. There’s also a new lightweight lithium-ion 12V battery onboard that powers the V8’s auto stop/start feature. Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 comes standard and has three distinct suspension settings. Brembo Carbon Ceramic brakes and staggered 20-21 inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport All-Seasons help with handling and grip (MPS Summer tires are available). Driver assistance features include Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking. The 2024 Corvette E-Ray goes on sale some time later this year with an MSRP of $104,295 for the coupe and $111,295 for the drop-top.
