You’ve been asking for it, you’ve waited patiently. Finally, Toyota is ready to deliver. Introducing the all-new 2024 Grand Highlander, a bigger and more flexible Highlander. Three powertrains, two of which are hybrids, and much more room inside make this a real contender for the largest three-row crossovers in America. Think Telluride, Palisade, Pilot, Traverse, Atlas, and Grand Cherokee L. Where the regular Highlander skews more to the size of a Kia Sorento, this model will finally provide Toyota with a proper three-row that gives customers a truly usable third row with cargo space to spare. Where the new Sequoia’s third row disappoints, the Grand Highlander’s delights. Let’s take a first look.
High level details include three powertrain options, two hybrids, a completely unique design from the regular Highlander, and a much larger third row + cargo area. The Grand Highlander is closer in size to the largest in this segment while till managing to be roomier than entries like the brand-new Mazda CX-90 or the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The base engine is the new 2.4L turbo 4-cylinder from the regular Highlander, but Toyota would love to get you into one of the the two hybrid options. You have your choice of the traditional 2.5L hybrid system or the new 2.4L turbo Hybrid Max. It makes 362 horsepower and will be all-wheel drive-only. The other engines will be available with front- or all-wheel drive, with the front-wheel drive Hybrid being the most efficient at 34 mpg combined.
Grand Highlander goes on sale this Summer and we will be driving it in May, so stay tuned for that.
