Kia’s Sportage has finally found its groove: As a roomy, family-friendly SUV with a “just right” price tag. What do I mean by that? Well, the Sportage started out as a fugly 5-door SUV built on a Mazda van platform (no I’m not kidding), then it became a frumpy crossover with Pontiac Aztek styling, then it was trying to compete with Volkswagen with turbo engines and sporty dynamics (but a tight interior), but this Sportage, this one has hit the nail on the head. Driving dynamics aren’t class leading, but they are above average, but the space, tech, hybrid and plug in hybrid options, combined with sharp styling and a low price tag? That’s all a reason to give the Sportage a peek if you don’t want to wait for that new RAV4 around the corner…
