The all-electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class is coming in 2024. Shown at the Munich Motor Show last year, the concept Mercedes-EQ EQG showed a near-production example of the vehicle that will wear that same name. It wore the same body as the G-Class and will apparently still ride on that car’s platform when it hits production. It will be modified to accommodate the electric powertrain, but this bodes well for those hoping the car will be as capable as the classic G Wagon. More on this development here.
Buick is apparently following in the footsteps of car companies that have redesigned their logos over the last few years. That list includes Cadillac, Nissan and Kia. Now, trademark filings have been uncovered that detail a different take on the crest with three shields that Buick has worn since the 1950s. The design keeps the shields but lines them evenly in a row instead of staggered like they are now. Whether or not they retain the three colors they wear now is not known at this point. The brand is planning its shift to electricity, starting with this Summer’s upcoming Electra concept, likely a good candidate for the first application of the new logo. More on this here.
The Ford Fusion has long rumored to have a replacement in development called the Fusion Active. This model would be targeted at Europe and the U.S., as those are the two markets that have lost the nameplate. China just received a new Mondeo/Fusion with a truly stunning design and a wagon-like body style option. Even Lincoln has received a version that revives the Zephyr name, but again, only in China. Now there are new spy shots of a brand new Ford model that appears to be boxy and right-sized to wear the Fusion Active name. More pics and details here.
A new Infiniti crossover is allegedly in the works, one that will slot in between the QX50 and QX60. Yes, they already have the QX55, but that model splits the difference in name only. This new addition is expected to squeeze in the middle of the two dimensionally, serving as a Lexus RX or Lincoln Nautilus competitor. It will likely utilize the QX60’s naturally-aspirated V6 engine with 295 horsepower mated to a nine speed automatic.
