Buick Envista Previews Brand’s New Design Language

Buick Envista Previews Brand’s New Design Language: In China, Buick and Cadillac are much more successful brands for General Motors than they are in their home country. You can still buy Buick sedans there, whereas the last one offered in the U.S. was the Lacrosse, discontinued a few years ago. With that in mind, Buick has decided to introduce a new model that is (for now) both exclusive to China and a beacon for the company’s next design language. Called the Envista, it portrays the role of trendy crossover-coupe with a similar profile to something like a BMW X4 or Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. Slotting in-between the Encore GX and Envision in size, Envista was inspired by the Electra-X concept car from earlier this year and introduces a new look for the brand. The front grille looks, well, rather Chinese in its sporty but somewhat generic shape. Inside is a mix of old and new Buick, featuring a new Tune Melody® subwoofer 3D surround audio system and the latest eConnect user interface. It is not an electric car, however, as it will be powered by the familiar 1.5L turbocharged Ecotec 4-cylinder engine.

Buick has made no claim about this models position in the U.S. lineup, but you can at least expect its design cues to make their way onto other future models here. “The launch of the Envista is part of our strategy to further elevate Buick’s SUV lineup and meet our customers’ diverse needs in China,” said Cesar Toledo, general director of Buick Sales and Marketing at SAIC-GM. “It delivers a more youthful, personalized character of Buick and will attract new customers who appreciate high-end design, confident performance and advanced technologies that will energize their journey in every respect.” It goes on sale shortly for a USD conversion that equates to around $22,000.
