Hyundai was pretty clear about its goals for the Venue: target first time car shoppers who would otherwise be looking at used vehicles. They’re doing a good job at it too. The Venue is attractively styled and it’s super efficient. In typical Hyundai fashion, it’s packed with so many features including most of the driver assistance and collision prevention technologies you expect out of a modern vehicle. Oh and did we mention it’s a crossover? Yup, the Venue has a high seating position. However, it doesn’t have AWD because the Accent-based Venue is FWD only. You’ll need to look at the Kona if you want a Hyundai subcompact crossover that can put power down to all four wheels.
Powering the Venue is a 121-hp 1.6-liter four-cylinder paired to either a six-speed manual (base trim only) or a CVT automatic so don’t expect much in terms of speed. What you will get in trade is great fuel economy because the CVT-equipped Venue is EPA-rated at 30/34/32 mpg city/highway/combined. The price is right too. A base SE trim starts under $20,000. Even loaded up, the Venue barely gets close to $25,000, making it a strong value proposition. Will it get your attention instead and convince you to go brand new instead of used?
