Mazda’s New Small CUV Is A Winner – 2020 Mazda CX-30

Subcompact crossovers are a hot commodity in the U.S. In fact, the segment is on fire with some brands even fielding multiple entries to cater to different tastes. Mazda’s first entry, the CX-3, veered on the smaller end and wasn’t very roomy. In fact, it felt more like a subcompact car with some body cladding. Now, the Hiroshima-based brand has added a new entry in the form of the CX-30. This slots between the CX-3 and CX-5 in terms of size but uses the same 187-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder as its larger sibling, making it one of the most powerful vehicles in its class.

Think of the CX-30 as slight taller Mazda3 hatchback with a more conventional design to appeal to a wider audience base. It rides on the same platform, has the same AWD system and sports a nearly identical interior that promises to punch above its class. There’s even a cool three-tone color scheme for the upholstery in case you want something out of the ordinary. Could Mazda’s latest subcompact crossover become one of its most popular vehicles? Does it handle like a Mazda should? Let’s take a deep dive and see where if this curvaceous new entry has the chops to compete with the best.
