Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV Debuts

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV has finally been revealed. Size-wise, it has the smallest footprint of all EQ models so far with 119.3 inches in length and a wheelbase that is 3.5 inches shorter than the EQE sedan. Looking very similar to the larger EQS SUV, the ‘Benz EQE SUV will come in three flavors at launch, the EQE 350+, 350 4MATIC, and 500 4MATIC. EQE 350 SUVs will run with either single- or dual-motor setups, with the rear electric motor on both producing 288 horsepower and 417 lb.-ft. of torque. If you get the 4MATIC, that adds an electric motor up front that does not increase the overall horsepower, but bumps overall torque output to 564 lb.-ft. The standard car has a 0-60 mph time of 6.3 seconds while the 4MATIC will do it in 6.2 seconds.

The EQE 500 is exclusively a dual-motor 4MATIC all-wheel drive affair, with two motors making 536 horsepower and 633 lb.-ft. of torque. It should hit 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. All models will be powered by a 90.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, though EPA range projections have not been announced. Expect the longest range model to hit around 300 miles. Thanks to Mercedes’ unique battery management software that will support OTA updates, energy management of the EQE SUV can be updated throughout the vehicle’s lifetime. A level 2 240-volt charge will charge the EQE SUV from 10 to 100% in 9.5 hours. A DC fast charger will enable speeds of up to 170 kW, allowing the battery to fill from 10 to 80% in 32 minutes.

Inside, the EQE SUV shares its dashboard design more or less with the EQE sedan, but loses the EQS SUV’s third row seat due to its smaller size. This is still about 4 inches longer than a Tesla Model Y, which does offer a miniature third row seat option. There is a new soundscape as part of the EQ interior sound staging system. Known as “Serene Breeze”, it offers a “relaxed and natural sound”. This system can adjust adaptively to your driving style. The EQE SUV will also come standard with a heat pump for more effective and efficient heating of the cabin.

Production of the 2023 EQE SUV will take place at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama starting this December. For more details on the EQE SUV, head here.
