Today, Honda released three photos and a lively animation of the production 2023 HR-V subcompact crossover. As expected, it is a unique design from the one seen in Europe, Japan, etc. Have a look for yourself. In my opinion, it looks like a combination of the Ford Escape, Mazda CX-30 and the previous generation Acura MDX. It isn’t as successful of a design as its Eastern counterpart, though I think that one has an odd shape itself. Honda did not share any details on the powertrain, but we know this HR-V is based on the Civic as opposed to the Fit like the outgoing model was. For more details on Honda’s statement about the car, head to MotorTrend. We will actually be taking a first look at it in-studio at the end of April, so stay tuned for that!
DeLorean, as we’ve previously reported, is rising from the dead this year. Previously, a dark teaser showing the front grille treatment was the only preview we had, but this time we get a look at the rear. This electric coupe looks like a cross between the Kia Stinger, Nissan Z and the original DeLorean from ‘Back to the Future’. There is also a two-tone paint job with a black roof treatment on this illustration. Italian design firm Italdesign, whose founder was responsible for the original model’s look, has designed this reincarnation. Head here for more details and when you can expect a full reveal.
We can now see how the second-generation Hyundai Kona’s interior looks somewhat familiar, thanks to The Korean Car Blog who shared screenshots from this video today. As you can see, the dashboard looks nearly identical to the IONIQ 5’s, albeit with some additional functionality of some sort happening below in the bin. Then if you look at the steering wheel, you will see it is simply a manicured Hyundai Nexo wheel graced with a two-tone color scheme. The gear shifter, however, is stalk-style like the IONIQ 5’s. Having the ICE Kona adopt that model’s design ethos seems like an odd move, as this one was identified as running the 1.6L turbo 4-cylinder hybrid from other Hyundai hybrids.
Thanks to Car and Driver, we have some new spy shots of the second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT, this time a coupe only. Its convertible was replaced by the AMG SL last year. From what we can see here, this looks like the back of the current AMG GT got with the front of the AMG SL. That is certainly not a bad thing, as it still retains a sleek and sporty shape like the outgoing model. Though the SL has a tiny rear seat, the GT will be a two-seater exclusively. This GT will use the same 4.0L twin-turbo V8 as the SL, with the 55 and 63’s power outputs being somewhere in the ballpark of 469 and 577 horsepower, respectively.
After three years, the Geneva Motor Show is expected to make a return in 2023. The organization confirmed today that they feel comfortable setting the dates from February 14 to February 19, 2023. In its normal format, this show has long been been known for being one of the busiest auto shows in the world. With waning interest from automakers, it is going to take a thorough re-thinking in order to make it next year’s show worth a decent chunk of your frequent flier miles. More on this here.
