Nissan Project 72X

Nissan shows off three new extreme versions of the Frontier pickup.

Nissan is taking to the Chicago Auto Show with three concepts based off of the latest Frontier pickup. Each one has its own design theme and accessories that adhere to the different lifestyles of modern truck shoppers. Project 72X, Project Hardbody and Project Adventure were all designed by Nissan Design America (NDA) in San Diego, Calif.

Project 72X

  • Based on the 2022 Frontier Crew Cab S 4×4 grade.
  • Inspired by the Datsun 720.
  • Gray exterior tones and graphics.
  • White-painted steel wheels.
  • 2.5-inch lift kit with adjustable front upper suspension arms.
  • Sport bar behind the cab.

Project Hardbody

  • Based on the 2022 Frontier Crew Cab SV 4×4 grade.
  • Inspired by the Nissan D21 “Hardbody”, the first truck design completed at NDA.
  • 3-inch lift kit with adjustable upper control arms.
  • Overfenders from the current Frontier PRO-4X.
  • Classic Hardbody block-style wheels designed and milled at NDA, mounted with 33-inch tires.
  • Bed-mounted spare tire carrier.
  • Sport bar with modern 10-inch rectangular LED lights.
  • Blacked-out front end.
  • Door graphics with ‘80s-style shadow outlining.

Project Adventure

  • Based on a 2022 Frontier Crew Cab PRO-4X
  • 5-inch lift kit.
  • 34- inch mud terrain tires.
  • Yakima® bed rack system.
  • Yakima® LoadWarrior roof basket.
  • Sky tent.
  • Bluetooth® bed audio system by KICKER®.
  • Carbon fiber snorkel.
  • Custom body wrap depicting an atlas of the U.S.

Even though these are concept cars, Nissan says “all three of the Frontier concept trucks combine readily available Nissan and aftermarket parts and accessories with custom-designed pieces and graphics.” If you like anything you see here, it sounds like you’ll be able to pick and choose, mix and match, and design at your leisure in the aftermarket.
