Polestar 3 Fully Unveiled

The third installment in Polestar’s portfolio of electrified vehicles, the new 2024 Polestar 3 is the closest thing to a 100% Polestar original so far. The Polestar 1 and 2 both started development as Volvo products, which is clear by their resemblance to other Volvo products and concepts. The 3 represents the brand’s true unique design philosophy, like the production-bound Polestar 6 roadster. As a full electric car, how does it stack up? The model coming out first will be equipped with two electric motors (one up front, one out back) that will together produce 489 horsepower and 620 lb.-ft. of torque. This will give the Polestar 3 a 4.9-second 0-60 mph time. Unlike its Volvo cousins, whose top speeds are now electronically capped at 110 mph, the 3 will got up to 130. Powering everything is an 111-kWh lithium-ion battery that should help it go up to 300 miles on a full charge, while DC fast-charging will peak at 250 kW.

The Polestar 3 takes the premium aesthetic of the existing models up a couple of notches with an interior that looks to be as luxurious as a Porsche Cayenne. Anchored around an Android Automotive infotainment system, the dashboard is techno-minimalist with a 14.5″ touchscreen floating on the dashboard and an attractive mix of colors and textures. Yellow is a common accent color throughout, as is the bio-attributed MicroTech material, an “animal welfare-certified leather and fully traceable wool [upholstery]”. The vehicle’s major systems will be powered by an NVIDIA DRIVE core computer software system. This platform “processes data from the car’s multiple sensors and cameras to enable advanced driver-assistance safety features and driver monitoring.” Essentially, this should have potent internal operations.

The Polestar 3 will start at $85,300 (including $1,400 destination), but will be built solely in China until 2024, when parent company Volvo’s plant in South Carolina will begin assembling the car. This will instill the new Federal EV Tax credit upon the 3 for qualifying buyers. Initial deliveries are set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2023.
