Rolls-Royce has beaten its arch-rival, Bentley, in the race to release the world’s first ultra-luxury electric land yacht. The 2024 Spectre represents the brand’s efforts in electrification as an alternative to its traditional gas-powered models, not a full phase-out of them. Looking very similar to the two-door Wraith, the Spectre is lower and wider for a hint of additional aerodynamic efficiency (this is still a rolling brick, after all). It implements some fresh design cues from its parent company as well, BMW, such as the split headlight design. Its interior does not stray from the classic upright dashboard design as past Rolls-Royce models, but modern touches like a digital instrument cluster and updated infotainment help make it feel fresh. The starry headliner is even extended all the way to the doors now.
Powering the Spectre is….a battery and multiple electric motors. How many motors, how big of a battery, you ask? Rolls’ has not yet released that info. All we know is that it has total system output of 577 horsepower and 664 lb.-ft. of torque, allowing for a 0-60 launch in 4.4 seconds. Efforts to achieve a “magic carpet ride” include a Planar suspension system that decouples and re-couples the anti-roll bars on demand, as well as adaptive dampers and four-wheel steering. Rolls-Royce says you will be able to cruise in your Spectre for up to 320 miles (WLTP estimate) all while enjoying the 30 percent stiffer aluminum spaceframe chassis that places the car’s curb weight at a whopping 6,559 pounds. Nothing about the Spectre strays away from the expectations of a Rolls-Royce.
