Genesis finally has an SUV and it lands right in the heart of the highly competitive midsize luxury segment. Available with seating for up to seven, the GV80 is aimed directly at the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class. Alongside the new G80 sedan, the GV80 rides on the Hyundai Motor Group’s new RWD-based architecture.
The GV80 is the first vehicle in a full-on product offensive for Hyundai’s upstart luxury division. It’ll also debut with two new turbocharged engines, a four- and six-cylinder, the former of which will see use in a number of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles. Will this new luxury SUV shake things up in the luxury SUV segment and lure away buyers from the established European and Japanese competition?
