This week, Toyota announced a slew of new model introductions. This included a wide variety of updates for two popular body-on-frame models and the Supra. These variants follow the new Highlander Hybrid Bronze Edition, the Prius Nightshade Edition, and the Sienna Wilderness Edition.
The first of four models the 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport, a street-oriented version of the rugged SUV. Toyota’s Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System (X-REAS) suspension, which is also found on the Limited grade, is standard on the TRD Sport, giving it better ride and handling on pavement. You can get the 4Runner TRD Sport in RWD or part-time 4WD configurations.
On the outside, the Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport gets 20-inch alloy wheels with gray accents, body-colored grille accents and body moldings, a TRD hood scoop, black roof rails, and a front spoiler. Toyota’s popular Tacoma midsize pickup gets some off-road enhancements with the addition of an upgraded TRD Pro model. The suspension has been lifted 1.5 inches in front and 0.5 inches in the rear to improve its approach, departure, and breakover angles. Toyota has added aluminum upper control arms that are stronger and enable the Fox shocks to have more rebound stroke. Black TRD wheels are standard on the Tacoma TRD Pro and are now shod in Goodyear Territory all-terrain tires. A new exterior color, Electric Lime Metallic, has been added along with updated TRD Pro stamping on the bed.
In case the TRD Pro model is too hardcore for you, Toyota has also announced the Tacoma Trail Edition 4×4. This features a 1.1-inch front and 0.5-inch rear suspension lift, in-bed storage that can double as a cooler, 16-inch bronze alloy wheels shod in Goodyear tires, and a retro grille with a bronze Toyota logo. Both the Tacoma TRD Pro and Trail Edition 4×4 use a 3.5-liter V6 with 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque.
Finally, the most exclusive special edition announced by Toyota today is the Supra A91-CF Edition. Based on the 3.0 Premium model with the 382-hp turbocharged inline-six, this version gets a nice helping of carbon fiber and a complimentary one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association so you get expert driving lessons at a High-Performance Driving Event (HPDE) on a closed track.
