Thanks to our friends at CarBuzz, we may have new insight into the name of the Lexus LFA successor, which Lexus has already promised and shown off in concept form. The Lexus Electrified Sport concept is just one of the many the brand revealed earlier this year previewing electric production models to arrive over the next few years, and all of them are reportedly very indicative of their respective final designs. The picture at the bottom of this page shows off the family of vehicles I’m referring to, but the two-door in question is the only one whose name has been discovered in patent filings.
Lexus has officially filed a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) titled ‘Lexus LFR’. This name has previously been rumored, but this basically confirms that Toyota and Lexus want to use that name for the production car. According to Lexus, this model has the potential to be powered by solid-state batteries, which puts the timeline of its release up in the air. That technology has not made its way into a mass-market electric car just yet, and some rumors even believe this sports car won’t actually be a full electric car at all.
Per the company’s U.S. website: “Unleashing the full potential of electrification to push all of the limits on both the road and the track, the Lexus Electrified Sport envisions a potential 0—60 time in the low two-second range and a cruising distance that could exceed 430 miles, thanks to the possible use of solid-state batteries.” All very promising if it holds up in development.
