For 2018 Chevy decided to completely redesign their compact CUV to compete head-on with the CR-V. To that end we have a standard turbo engine in the base model, an optional high-output 2.0L turbo if you want more shove and a 1.6L turbo diesel if fuel sipping is more your thing. In addition to fuel economy and power, engineers also targeted handling dynamics and the result is a CUV that can go toe to toe with Ford’s Escape when the road starts to bend. My only complaint with the Equinox so far has been pricing. GM’s usual pattern of MSRPs that are at or above the competition but actual on-the-lot pricing that beats the competitors seems to be playing out with the Equinox as well. This makes comparisons difficult but should result in a better deal for someone looking to give this Chevy a spot in their driveway. But can it beat the CR-V?
