2018 Mercedes AMG GT C First Drive Review

Just like the 3-Series is the benchmark for compact luxury sedans, the Porsche 911 is the car to beat in the performance coupe segment and Mercedes has decided to go all-in on their 911-fighting GT. The GT family is, interestingly enough, not a “Mercedes-Benz” but a “Mercedes-AMG” and was designed entirely in house by the AMG performance division. This is AMG’s second in-house project after the outgoing SLS.

With a front-mid-engine, rear wheel drive layout the GT handles very differently than the average Mercedes and, for obvious reasons, somewhat like the 911. That means that this Merc is all about performance. If you want a luxury tourer, Mercedes would be happy to sell you a S-Class coupe, but if you want a 911-eater, the GT is the car for you.
