The wait for a fourth-generation mid-size truck from Toyota may be coming to a close soon, as we have now seen detailed patent imagery of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, and it looks strikingly similar to the Pickup EV concept that debuted near the end of 2021. It (first photo below) was displayed among a buffet of different electric models that Toyota confirmed were in the development process, some further along than others. As you can see by the patent photos below, the production model is going to be heavily based on that concept, not a bad thing at all! In fact, we think this Tacoma looks like it should be far more palatable than its larger sibling, the Tundra. The Tacoma joins the Sequoia with a closed-off grille, albeit in a much narrower format here. Many smaller details seem to be inspired by the Tundra, however. It is a really tasteful yet rugged look.
Rumors suggest that the plan is to reveal the 2024 Toyota Tacoma before the middle of the year, so this leak seems well-timed. How were these photos acquired? Motor1 dug them up from the Brazilian patent office. It is also believed that this generation Tacoma will be more globalized in terms of availability, so these foreign patents are very likely what we should look forward to here in North America. The photos were published by Brazil’s Ministério do Desenvolvimento, Indústria, Comércio e Serviços Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial. The core designers of this truck, according to the filings, originate from Toyota’s Calty Design Research center in California.
