The new 2017 S90 is puts the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6 firmly in Volvo’s crosshairs. While Volvo still doesn’t have a firm answer for the twin-turbo V8 luxury sedans from Germany, the new SPA platform delivers the luxury, acceleration and handling that 90% of the shoppers in this segment demand. For the price of a 250 horsepower German sedan you can get a 316 HP all-wheel-drive S90 with more features, more luxury and better acceleration for less cash. The S90 T6 is slightly slower to highway speed than an A6 3.0T, 535i xDrive or the upcoming E400 4Matic, but it’ll be at least $10,000 less expensive while delivering a superior interior. My tip to Volvo: bring a stretched S90L with a 450 HP hybrid system to the USA and I’ll sell a kidney.
