When Chevy created their new 2.7L turbo truck engine, they decided to go in a different direction than Ford did with their 2.7L Ecoboost V6. Instead of making it a V8 replacement, the Chevy / GMC 2.7L four-cylinder turbocharged engine is designed to be more of an upgrade from a V6 rather than a full-on V8 replacement and that is critical to understanding the way the pickup we drove this week behaves. That means the competition for Ford’s 2.7L Ecoboost F-150 is not in fact the Silverado with the new 2.7 but rather the Silverado or Sierra with the 5.3L V8.
