Introducing the Sony Honda Mobility Company: Following a previous announcement that these two Japanese companies would be joining forces to build new electric cars globally, we now know the name of that joint venture and more details on logistics. Based in Tokyo, it will officially be known as ‘Sony Honda Mobility Inc.’ and should be fully established by year’s end via the discretion of relevant regulatory approvals. It will be an evenly-split 50:50 venture between the two.
According to the incoming Chairman and CEO, Yasuhide Mizuno: “We plan to fully leverage the technological assets the two companies possess in different fields, such as Sony’s sensing technology and Honda’s original mobility development capabilities, to realize mobility and services that inspire and excite our customers. By bringing together the expertise of both companies, we aim to lead the way in a new era.” The company plans to begin the sale of EVs and provision of mobility services in 2025. No other details were provided on what vehicles would be manifesting from this collaboration, but you can bet some variations of Sony’s VISION-S 01 or 02 concept cars will make the cut. No new logo or branding was shared either, but they have plenty of time to get all of that prepared for a 2025 launch.
