Hydrogen fuel cell technology has not exactly seen the rapid development that all-electric has, with only three automakers really putting any effort into making them work. Toyota, being one of them, has been selling the Mirai in California only since 2015. Hyundai and Honda have or currently offer hydrogen fuel cell videos. Now, Toyota is working with Yamaha once again to develop a hydrogen internal combustion engine based on the 5.0L V8 found in numerous Lexus products. The Mini Countryman is the brand’s largest offering, eclipsing both the Clubman and traditional Cooper Hardtop in exterior dimensions. That’s not much to work with to begin with, of course. The Countryman is still somewhat of a small vehicle, in line with Kia Seltos, Chevy Trailblazer, Honda HR-V, etc. The current generation debuted for the 2017 model year with a refresh happening in 2021, but we are just starting to see spy shots emerge of the next generation. Huawei is the Chinese company known for cell phones and electronics, many of which have been banned from being sold in the U.S. for various reasons. They are also known to be running a very robust autonomous vehicle development unit, and it seems that Volkswagen Group has caught wind.
