So we ordered a “base” Model 3 (plus blue paint) six weeks ago. We’ve seen our order date come and go, then disappear completely. What’d going on? Well, it turns out Tesla ha shifted gears and has decided to ditch the “Standard Interior” and the “Standard Battery” and just use the “Standard Range Plus” model for everything with software limiting the range and likely the performance. They have also stopped online ordering of the base model so if you want a “$35,000 Tesla” you will now need to go to the store or call so they can try to up-sell you. It also means you will likely need to act soon because I suspect the base model won’t be around long. On the bright side the SR+ model gains standard AutoPilot and the color options are less expensive than before.
