The off-road wagon segment has always been small but there’s a new entry for 2017 from Volkswagen in the form of the raised Golf wagon. With an additional inch of ground clearance, a dual clutch transmission and some go-anywhere body cladding, the Alltrack is exactly what would happen if Volvo and Subaru engineers got together and designed a station wagon. With a price tag that’s more Subaru than Volvo but on-road manners more like the V60 Cross Country than the Outback the Alltrack is an interesting option in a phone booth sized market.
