Slate Sets Official Reveal and Pricing Date for Its Affordable Electric Truck

We’ve been hearing about and seeing teasers of the affordable Slate pickup for what feels like years now, but the upstart automaker finally set an official reveal date for later this month. The event will also bring final pricing for the vehicle, which we haven’t heard much about since before the federal EV tax credits ended last year.

Slate will reveal launch details on June 24 in Los Angeles. The automaker has already taken more than a year’s worth of reservations for the vehicle, which will be available in three body styles at launch: a two-door pickup truck, a fastback shape, and a more traditional SUV shape. The idea is that Slate builds a barebones vehicle and lets its buyers decide where to go from there.

At launch, the company plans to offer almost 100 exterior wrap colors, but all vehicles leave the factory in gray. Slate said it would offer print designs for the wraps in 2027, but the no-frills production methods are the key to the vehicles’ low starting price.

Buyers who want to customize their new Slate vehicle will have access to an app with directions and a difficulty scale, ranging from one to three wrenches, with three being the most difficult. Slate has partnered with RepairPal, which will assemble SUV kits for buyers who don’t want the hassle.

The new EVs should have a starting price in the mid-$20,000 range, but few are likely to end up in buyers’ hands at that price point. We don’t have pricing details for accessories and upgrades, but it’s not a stretch to assume that adding interior options, a wrap, and extra body pieces would add several thousand dollars to that slim base price.
