Tesla discontinued the Model S and Model X, leaving it without a larger flagship SUV, but that’s changing. The automaker’s long-wheelbase Model Y, previously only sold in China, is coming to the United States for the 2027 model year.
Priced at $63,630 after fees, the Model Y L offers three usable rows of seating. Tesla extended the wheelbase by six inches and the body by seven inches, giving it more room inside and a more refined ride quality. It’s also slightly taller than the standard Model Y, giving it a bit more of a bulbous shape than the smaller EV. The expanded proportions bring more cargo space, with the Model Y L offering 89 cubic feet with the third row folded flat.

The Model Y L Launch Series model has an 83-kWh battery pack and standard dual-motor all-wheel drive. It offers the same 3,500-pound tow rating as the standard Model Y, and the driving range reaches 325 miles, with the ability to recover 164 miles of charge in 15 minutes.
The extended Model Y is notably more expensive than the regular vehicle, but the extra money only buys more space, not a significantly upgraded SUV. It still offers Tesla’s suite of advanced driver-assistance features, including Full Self-Driving. Buyers have two wheel options, a handful of color choices, black or white upholstery options, and a few accessories to choose from.
While the order books are open now, the Model Y L isn’t expected to reach buyers’ driveways until October. If you’re interested, you can place a $250 non-refundable deposit to reserve your place in line on Tesla’s site today.
