The RWD Options | Explorer vs Durango

As SUVs morphed into crossovers, many ended up switching to a more cost-effective FWD platform with AWD as an option. There are two outliers in the three-row segment. The Dodge Durango and Ford Explorer, the latter of which recently returned to the layout after spending a generation with its engine sideways.

Newer doesn’t always mean better though. We’re here to find out if the Ford Explorer and its new RWD architecture shared with the Lincoln Aviator is a capable rival to the Dodge Durango. Will the old school V8-powered Durango prevail or does the Ford and its range of turbocharged and electrified powertrain take the cake?
