Subaru Leads The Pack | 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport

The Subaru Crosstrek has long been one of the best vehicles in the subcompact crossover segment. It blended pleasant road manners, standard AWD, a roomy interior, and lots of safety features. Essentially a raised Impreza hatchback, the Crosstrek has 8.7 inches of ground clearance and lots of body cladding giving it mass appeal. The fact that the Crosstrek didn’t get too expensive when you loaded it up also made it more tempting and strengthened its value proposition.

There wasn’t much wrong with the car as it stands. The only exception is power because the base 2.0-liter flat-four lacked the necessary grunt to move the Crosstrek with any urgency. For 2021, that has been addressed with the addition of the 182-hp 2.5-liter flat-four from the Forester and Outback. Available on the Crosstrek’s Sport and Limited trims, the more powerful engine gives this crossover a little more verve. The best part? You don’t sacrifice fuel economy because the 2.5-liter is just as efficient as its 2.0-liter counterpart!

Is it worth stepping up to the pricier models just for that more powerful engine? Let’s find out.
