Mopar is the division of Stellantis known for accessories and parts customization. Today they announced that they are now vendors of electric charging equipment, too. While there are no full-electric models currently for sale in the U.S. from the conglomerate, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid and Jeep’s 4xe plug-in hybrid vehicles do still require a plug to charge their batteries. You can already grab a Level 1 120-volt charging system from the factory, but Mopar upgrades that to Level 2. It pushes 7.7 kW of power, is WiFi-enabled, and can charge up to six times faster than the original.
The system costs $599 and is already available to order from Chrysler, Jeep and Mopar’s websites. You won’t see Mopar branding on the cables, however, as they have chosen to let the appropriate company slap their own badge on it. You can monitor charging progress from the accompanying app or on the desktop site, and Mopar claims it is good for both indoor and outdoor use. So, feel free to set it up inside a garage or next to an exposed driveway. Smart grid optimization enables the system to understand when electricity rates are lower, therefore saving you money on energy costs. Look for even more powerful options from Mopar once Stellantis finally begins releasing EVs.
