The next generation of BMW’s flagship 7 Series sedan is arriving sooner than you might think. For months now, we’ve seen numerous examples of the 2023 model testing in various locations. With a more rectangular and sharply-creased side profile, it is safe to anticipate the new car will channel themes from its first three generations. Where speculative renderings have struggled a little more has been surrounding its front end design. Today, however, we now know that many of them got it right. If you recall the bold XM crossover revealed earlier this year, the teasers of the 7 Series released today should be very familiar. Let’s take a look.
Though it isn’t as large as the 4 Series and M3/M4 kidney grilles, the illuminated grille is still large and in charge. As is the current trend, the northernmost crystal glass LED light strips serve as the daytime running lights. Less visible are the twin round headlights just below. These photos depict the all-electric i7 but we don’t know if the regular 7 Series will look just like this or slightly different. Either way, this will certainly the most daring design in its segment by a long shot.
Inside, the instrument panel should be reminiscent of the new iX and i4 in terms how it mounts to the dashboard via two contemporary legs, if you will. It will retain the BMW Curved Display of those models as well, but the most intriguing element is actually in the back seat. The BMW Theatre Screen debuts in the i7. That is the 31 inch screen that emerges from the roof liner. The super wide display can stream content up to 8K quality. Also unique to the i7 is the BMW Interaction Bar, a glass panel with integrated touch controls. The apparatus spreads across the door panels and contributes to the ambient light array.
BMW also took the opportunity to share a few details about the electric i7’s propulsion system. The EPA is estimating its range will hit 305 miles (491 km) from its 120 kWh battery. A higher-performance version is also coming with a tri-motor setup. BMW did not reveal if the standard i7 would come standard with xDrive or not. Nor did they share anything about the ICE 7 Series.
The full unveiling of both the 7 Series and i7 will take place on 4/20, so look for more teasers to come as we get closer to that date.
