Today, Porsche made it official that the next-generation 718 Boxster and Cayman will be going electric-only. The design will also be heavily inspired by the Mission R concept unveiled last year. Fun fact: I had a chance to see the next Boxster for myself at Porsche’s annual Investor Conference in November 2021. You’ll just have to wait to see it for yourself! Being a 2025 model year, it might be awhile before you can, unfortunately. The batteries will sit right where the mid-placed engines traditionally lived, and the cars will ride on the new Porsche/Audi PPE electric platform. More details on this development here.

We have already seen the 2023 Land Rover Ranger Rover in all of its British glory, but up next will be the Range Rover Sport. Today we have new spy shots of the smaller and faster Rover with less camouflage. There is evidence that points to this particular unit being a plug-in hybrid model. The front end has a leaner appearance compared to its big brother, but the rear is more heavily disguised. Looking at the Range Rover PHEV’s specs, it is likely this model will receive some variation on the 38kWh lithium-ion battery / 105kW electric motor combo with the 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine. Honda hasn’t debuted a full EV model in the Unites States since the late Clarity Electric. The next example will be the Prologue crossover co-developed with General Motors running on the Ultium battery platform. We’ve also already reported on the brand’s partnership with Sony to bring their Vision Electric models to market in the next few years. New trademark filings with the European Union Intellectual Property Office reveal the alphanumeric names e:Ny3, e:Ny4, e:Ny5, e:Ny6, e:Ny7, and e:Ny8. We can expect this lineup of electric cars to mimic Kia’s EV# naming strategy and represent chronologically the hierarchy of size for each vehicle. More on this here.
Hyundai Mobis is the parts and service arm of Hyundai Motor Group in South Korea. Over the last few years, they have been hard at work developing a new take on the automobile front grille. That work was made public last June when they officially announced the ‘Lightning Grille’. This technology integrates LED communicative arrays into a car’s front grille in order to relay vehicle status and other messages to surrounding observers. Earlier this year, Hyundai Mobis completed its development and is currently conducting reliability verification for commercialization. More on this tech here.
