2023 Lexus RX Revealed

The 2023 Lexus RX has been revealed. The fifth generation model has four powertrain options, all but one being a hybrid. The RX 350 trades in the outgoing model’s tried-and-true 3.5L V6 for the 2.4L turbo 4-cylinder seen in the NX and new Highlander. That motor produces 275 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque and is available in front- or all-wheel-drive. The next engine is the 350h hybrid, which pairs a 2.5L turbo 4-cylinder with a rear electric motor for 246 horsepower and 233 lb.-ft. of torque. The 450h+ is the new plug-in hybrid that likely uses the same exact setup as the NX 450h+, though details have not been provided for the RX application.

The new range-topping model is the RX 500h F SPORT Performance. It shakes things up as the first implementation of the F SPORT Performance trim for the RX. The first example was the IS 500, but that is powered by a 5.0L V8. The RX will use a 2.4L turbo 4-cylinder and a……6-speed automatic……paired with an inverter and an electric motor as well as an eAxle rear unit that integrates a high output electric motor, inverter and reduction gearbox. Complicated stuff, but power output will sing to the tune of 367 horsepower and 406 lb.-ft. of torque. It will use the Direct4 AWD system and upgraded performance bits such as six-piston brake calipers. The 2023 RX is expected to go on sale at the end of 2022.
