The Infiniti QX65 is Coming

Thanks to the sleuthing over at Carscoops, a trademark filing for Infiniti’s next model, the QX65, has been uncovered via the U.S. patent office. Though there is no official word on what this model will materialize as, it wouldn’t be wild to deduce that it will be the “coupe” version of the QX60. The QX60 is the Nissan Pathfinder equivalent, meaning this model would be closer in sizer to a BMW X6 than Infiniti’s existing crossover coupe, the QX55. That model takes the QX50 and chops the roofline in the back for a sexier profile and more limited passenger room. This trend, though less practical, has proven to be a success for the Germans like the BMW X6 and X4 or the Mercedes-Benz GLC and GLE Coupes.

Earlier this year, Infiniti told Carbuzz, “… we will focus on the most popular luxury automotive segments such as crossovers and SUVs, as well as our first EV that we recently announced will be built in a manufacturing plant here in the US”. Like many other brands, they are going all-in on the crossover segment and are looking to make their lineup overall more efficient in order to adhere to stricter emissions regulations. One of its biggest rivals, Genesis, is looking to do the same, but they are not ditching the sedan body style. The recently launched second-generation G90 won MotorTrend’s Car of the Year award, and the G70 and G80 sedans continue to earn accolades. They will also be coming out with a crossover coupe based on the GV80 sometime in the near future. That model would be a direct competitor to the QX65, so we will have to wait and see which one debuts first and which one provides the best balance of sedan shape and crossover ride height and cargo capacity luxury buyers seem to be flocking to these days.
