Genesis has just unveiled the GV80 Coupe Concept. Don’t be fooled, though, this is a near-production preview of the production GV80 Coupe which is set to go on sale in S. Korea early next year, here in the U.S. sometime later. Not only does it preview Genesis’ first GLE Coupe and X6 fighter, it also previews the design tweaks we can expect on the impending GV80 refresh.
This is a design-forward model with a ‘Designed by Genesis’ plaque on the front fender, a stunning ‘Magma’ paint color, sporty black exterior trim, aggressive five-spoke forged aluminum wheels, and a carbon fiber roof. The rear end is reminiscent of the crossover coupes available today, but with a certain level of individuality that only Genesis can pull off. Like the G90, the dual-line design motif extends across the entire trunk, something we should definitely expect to see on that GV80 refresh.
The interior is familiar to the current GV80 SUV, but with four bucket seats, contrasting black Nappa and suede leather with plaid double stitching, orange piping, and carbon fiber weaves on the functional surfaces.
No powertrain specs were provided, nor was there any hint of an electric version on the horizon. With the brand’s goal of only releasing electric vehicles starting in 2025, you can bet that if there’s not an electric version coming at launch, one is probably in the pipeline for both it and its traditional body style brother down the line. It is safe to bet that this performance-oriented design will be matched with the twin-turbo 3.5L V6 at the minimum.
