Here’s an early look at the production Volkswagen ID.7 sedan. Thanks to patents submitted to China’s Interior Ministry patent office (leaks like this happens a lot with Chinese-built vehicles because it is a publicly-accessible database), we can see how closely it resembles the ID. Aero concept that previewed it.
Yes, this model is coming to the U.S. Remember CES earlier this year? Volkswagen brought out a camouflaged ID.7 and made the announcement that it would be coming our way as a Model 3, IONIQ 6 and i4 competitor. They also shared a photo or two of the interior, which we have included in this gallery. Otherwise, the big takeaway from the new exterior photos is that the ID.7 has a substantial presence, but wheels that perhaps look a tad too small on it.
It’s too early to determine, but judging by the height of the roof and the massive windows behind the C-pillar, the ID.7 might end up having the roomiest cabin of all the electric mid-size sedans. A full fixed glass roof is shown in these patent photos, which should take the open and airy feel even further.
Specs? We have some of those to share. According to the information provided, the ID.7 could have a range figure as high as 435 miles (700 km). That would put it in Model S and Lucid Air company, even considering the potential figure drop in EPA testing. At least for the Chinese market, a 77-kWh battery pack will be standard, with a maximum 201 horsepower. While that is in line with single-motor variants of existing ID models, it’s safe to expect a dual-motor model with closer to 300 horsepower will accompany it on our shores.
Luckily, we don’t have long to wait for the full reveal, which takes place on April 18th at Auto Shanghai 2023. So, stay tuned for more details on the next all-electric sedan for the masses.
