Mercedes-Benz Unveils the 2024 E-Class

Are you a fan of the Mercedes-EQ Hyperscreen but prefer the general shape of a traditional Mercedes-Benz sedan? The all-new 2024 E-Class should tickle your fancy. Following the usual conservative generational updates that grace Mercedes products, the E-Class will absolutely be mistaken for the outgoing model from afar. Move in closer, and you’ll see where the changes lie – flush door handles, a longer wheelbase, a new grille shape, and a distinct triangular motif to the taillight arrays. It neither offends nor excites, but what else would you expect from the company’s bread-and-butter sedan?

Yes, we said Hyperscreen at the beginning, but that’s actually not what’s going on inside. Instead, Mercedes is introducing the new ‘Superscreen’, essentially a morph between the Hyperscreen and the separate LCD gauge cluster found on things like the latest S-Class. The main central display is a tiny bit smaller, but a passenger display is still optional. What it adds that its bigger brother lacks is a selfie camera enabling third-party apps like Zoom and Webex, for the business executives on the go. How do you feel about that?

Powertrain-wise, at launch the spec sheet will look very familiar. There will be an E350 4MATIC (AWD) with the 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder making 255 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. The E450 4MATIC uses the 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 producing 375 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. Both are mild-hybrids with 20 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of extra boost from the 48V electric motor. AMG and full-hybrid models have not been confirmed for the U.S. yet, though plug-in hybrids have been announced for overseas markets. However, according to recent EPA fuel economy submissions from the German brand, an E450 All-Terrain (wagon) is expected to return to our market for another round. This will be the very last E-Class wagon ever, as Mercedes does not plan on continuing on with the body style after this generation of vehicles.
