Stellantis Bets On New Multi-Billion-Dollar Turnaround Plan

Stellantis recently revealed significant upcoming investments as part of its turnaround strategy. The automaker plans multiple new models and will reposition some brands as it spends billions to right the ship.

In the United States, that roadmap includes 11 new vehicles, with at least two new models priced under $30,000. In global markets, Stellantis said it would release 29 new electric models and more than a dozen plug-in hybrid and range-extended electric vehicles.

The Stellantis portfolio, which includes Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Citroen, and many others, will keep some brands in their home regions, while others will sell vehicles worldwide. Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, and a few others will be sold in limited markets, while Fiat, Jeep, Peugeot, and Ram hold down the company’s global brand portfolio.

We don’t know which vehicles will debut under certain brands, and Stellantis executives did not confirm or deny whether it would sell or discontinue some of its less popular names. Chrysler currently sells just two minivan models in the U.S., leading many to speculate that the brand’s days were numbered. That said, officials confirmed that Maserati would get two new models under the new plan, and the automaker said it would continue as a luxury brand.

Stellantis also said it plans to increase production output in Europe and the United States. It plans expansions in both regions, bringing factory output to 80% capacity by the end of the decade. That’s good news for production workers, who have faced an uncertain future under the current conditions.

Shifting emissions regulations in the U.S. could offer a lifeline. Dodge and Ram took a hit with tighter rules, cutting popular V8 engines and struggling to find footing with new vehicles like the electric Dodge Challenger. As those policies loosen, Ram has reintroduced high-powered trucks, and we’ll likely see new V8-powered cars from Dodge.
